EVENTS

  -Team Penning

Currently we hold a team penning practice every Saturday at 1:00 PM. The cost is $30 per rider for a minimum of 4 runs.  Each practice begins with a "cow-up" - an individual rider goes into the herd, separates out one cow and works that cow one-on-one with our trainer, Tom Riley. If you have never tried team penning before, or are new to the sport, this is a great way to expose your horse to a cow and become familiar with how to "read" a cow. If you're an experienced rider, it's an opportunity to work your horse on a cow in a small area. Although we have several experienced riders who compete on regular teams, many of our riders are beginner or intermediate and are more than willing to help out beginners.

  -Cutting

Cutting practices are held every other Sunday. The cost is $10 per run (2 1/2 minutes each). The sport of cutting involves separating one cow out of the herd and keeping it from returning to the herd until it stops or turns away. Beginners can rent one of our horses for the day under the supervision of our trainer, Tom Riley. Please call ahead for details and reservations.

  -Other Events

Fun Shows - Every other month we put on a fun show with events like barrels, Montana keyhole, poles, and flags. Check out our calendar for details on our next one.

TRAINING

Has your trusted mount begun a bad habit? Do you have a colt or filly that needs instruction? Does your horse need a tune-up for cattle work? Whether your familiar horse has suddenly started to refuse to back up or you've bought a young horse that you don't have time to train, our experienced trainer, Tom Riley, can help. The keystone of his training philosophy is repetition - no harsh  methods are used. Training time is allotted in 30-day increments, and your horse will enjoy its time at our state-of-the art facility. Training fees also include riding lessons on your improved horse. For more information, and to see if we have openings, please contact Tom at 908-510-9289 or via E-mail: rhocowhorse@aol.com .

LESSONS

At RHO, we specialize in western riding. The RHO family believes anyone can learn to ride a horse and encourages everyone to improve - there is always more to learn.

Learning to ride a horse can be a scary prospect - unless your lessons are taken on a well-broke, calm horse. Our lesson horses have even temperaments and lots of patience for wandering legs and hands.

If you need some tips on becoming a better rider, or would like to focus on team penning or cutting, our trainer will guide you through it step-by-step.

Lessons are $50 an hour. Group lessons can also be arranged.  Call Courtney 908-510-1888 for more information or send us an e-mail:
